Psalm 34:8 (KJV)

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

The word “good” is the quality and part of someone who is kind, gracious, generous, and helpful. It can also mean the opposite of evil. God is good and that means God always acts in accordance with what is right, what is true and what is good. His intentions and motivations are always good. He always does what’s right, and the outcome of His plans are always good.

The Lord is good in our troubles.

The word “trouble” means an event, causing pain, distress, unrest. There is no peace of mind and peace of heart. Psalm 27:13 said, “I had fainted  unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

One classic Biblical example is the life of Joseph. God was good to Joseph when:

  • He was forsaken.
  • He was falsely accused.
  • He was forgotten. (Genesis 40:23)

How can we say that the Lord was good to Joseph?

  • God preserved him.
  • God prospered him.
  • God promoted him.

Remember that the first battle of every Christian is a mental battle. Are you starting to doubt God? Are you starting to believe worldly people more than God? Are you starting to believe the devil more than God? Are you starting to believe yourself more than God? The devil will get you to doubt Him. Then when you begin to doubt God, you will deny Him next.

The Lord is good to them that taste and see.

Taste it firsthand and reflect it in our face.

The Lord is good to them that trusteth in Him.

The one who sees will testify that the Lord is good are those who trusted in Him.

Nahum 1:7 (KJV)

The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

The word taste and see means to trust in the Lord!
