For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11 (KJV)
Why is there a Christmas season?
The Reality
What is the proof that we were really born? Our very proof is our birth certificate, the document that says we are really existed. For the Lord Jesus Christ, before He was even born, something has already been written – there is already a certificate! He is not yet born, but there is already evidence that He will be born. It was a documented prophecy.
Genesis 3:15 says, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” What this verse means is that a child will be born from the seed of a woman, a virgin birth. Medically speaking, the seed of a man is important so a child can be formed in the womb. But in the book of Matthew, we can see that Joseph has nothing to do with the birth of Christ because Christ was conceived by the Holy Ghost. (Luke 1:28-35)
The Divinity
The virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ is an essential detail of His birth. In Luke 1:34, “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”, we can see that the one who has hands and the one who has a voice in the situation of Mary’s condition was not a human being, because Mary herself said, “I know not a man.” No one was involved with Mary but the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit, the power of the Highest. No man was involved but just the overshadowing of the power of the Highest. That is important because it shows the divinity of His birth. All of it was God’s plan!
The Witnesses
In Luke 2:9, “And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.”, we can see that the first witnesses to Christ’s birth were the shepherds.
In Matthew 2:1-2, “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”, we see another witness to His birth – the wise men.
Many still try to disprove that Christ was truly born, that a Savior was born, that a King of the Jews was born, that a Messiah was born. But there was a document, there were witnesses and God, Himself, was involved!
Christmas season is not meant for a vacation. Christmas season is not meant for people to celebrate and party. Christmas season is primarily meant to commemorate that Someone was born as a Savior. Thank God that Christ was born! God gave His own Son so that we can have eternal life if we believe in Him. (John 3:16) Will you accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior today?
